The National Police Service has launched a countrywide crackdown targeting vehicles installed with modified lights.

Motorists with flickering lights, LED illuminating bars, unauthorized sirens and unauthorized red and blue lights have also been put on notice.

According to the police boss, the modifications are contrary to the law and endanger the lives of road users.

“This is to notify the Public that the Traffic Act (Cap 403), Section 55 read with the Traffic Rules Number 23 and 24 provide for the requirements for lights on vehicles (Private, PSV, Commercial, Trailers, Trucks, Tuk-Tuk and Motorcycles).

“…The above are contrary to the requirements of the law thus endangering the lives of road users.
Through this, all vehicle owners are advised to adhere to the requirements of the law to avoid any inconveniences,” Shioso warned.

Shioso also called on public, tour and commercial vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles have valid licences, in addition to vehicle inspection stickers and PSV badges for drivers and conductors.

“All traffic enforcement officers across the country have been directed to impound and charge motor vehicle/motorcycle owners in accordance with relevant provisions of the law,” the police boss stated.
