Patients at Ahero County hospital, Kisumu County were left shocked after the management halted the admission of male inpatients over a shortage of nurses in the facility.

In a memo shared by Bernadette Achieng, the acting Medical superintendent at the hospital, the latest development saw a shift in the wards to relieve the empty vacant space.

Female patients were asked to occupy the male wards while the paediatric ward moved to the female controls.

“Due to shortage of staffs in the Nursing Department, there will be a temporary closure of the male medical ward, therefore there willl be no admission of male patients,” the memo dated October 27, 2022, reads in parts.

“Consequently, paedeatric ward will shift to Female medical ward and the mal medical ward to be occupied by female patients. This will take effect immediately,” the memo added.
