President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, chaired the first cabinet meeting since he constituted a broad-based government which involves members of the opposition.
Among the cabinet secretaries attending a cabinet meeting for the first time include John Mbadi (National Treasury), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSME Development), Stella Soi Langa’t (Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy).
The meeting comes at a time when the government is facing a backlash from the public over the proposed deal which would see Indian firm Adani take over the operations of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for 30 years.
Ruto previously convened a meeting of the cabinet secretaries and principal secretaries on August 12, 2024.
