She was born on August 24, 1950, and apart from being Raila Odinga’s spouse, she is a renowned businesswoman in the country.
At 24 years old, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nairobi in 1973. It is at the institution that she met with Raila, her future husband, before they moved in on September 1, 1973.
They have four children: the late Fidel Odinga, Raila Junior, Rosemary Odinga, and Winnie Odinga.
Idah has also been engaged in a number of issues that are of national importance.
She founded the League of Kenya Women Voters in 1991, whose aim was to promote opportunities for women in the political arena. She served as the chairperson of the League.
In November 2018, she endorsed the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2018, which sought to amend the Constitution to guarantee the nomination of female candidates and MPs to Parliament. She was in the National Assembly during the debate of the bill, which late failed to see the light of the day when MPs finally voted on it in February 2029.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the top leaders in the country who supported the bill too.
