Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Tuesday hosted a delegation of representatives of the Chinese community in Kenya that was led by Ambassador Dr. Zhou Pingjian at his office in Nairobi.

Bilateral relations between Nairobi and Beijing shaped the agenda of the morning meeting between the two sides. Mudavadi who was in the company of Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei lauded Chinese organizations that have established operations in the country saying they had demonstrated huge confidence in Kenya as an investment destination.

He noted that their investments had boosted Kenya’s economy and promised that the government would continue to facilitate investors to set up business in Kenya by particularly ensuring the country is conducive for overseas companies to conduct business.

“We exchanged valuable ideas on key pillars, programs, and projects, underscoring the need for strategic collaboration and partnerships,” remarked Mudavadi after the meeting

“These efforts aim to further strengthen the friendship, political ties, and economic cooperation between Kenya and China,” added Mudavadi who is also the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary

On his part, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian thanked the government and the people of Kenya for accommodating and working well with the Chinese community, stating that Chinese overseas organizations have been a major pillar to the friendly relations between China and Kenya.  He welcomed Mudavadi’s commitment to improve conditions for investments locally.

The meeting comes just weeks before China hosts the 9th edition of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.

“China is willing to take the opportunity of the FOCAC Summit to work with the Kenyan side to promote new achievements in the construction of a China-Kenya community of shared future,” said Amb. Zhou

Ahead of the summit, Mudavadi said Kenya is keen to see the success of FOCAC programs.
