President William Ruto has declared three vacancies in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a gazette noticed dated 21st October 2022, President Ruto said the declaration was in accordance with section 7A (2) of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
“I notify of impending vacancies in the positions of: Chairperson and two Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on the 17th January, 2023,” read the gazette notice.
The tenure of the IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and the two commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye is set to lapse on 17th January, 2023.
According to the Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, the President is expected to appoint a Selection Panel consisting of seven persons for purposes of appointment of the Chairperson or Member of the Commission at least six months before the lapse of the term.
