Speaking during the Azimio coalition town hall meeting held in Ufungamano House on Thursday, April 13, Raila said he was the one who recruited Ben Oduor to the National Police Service.
“That young man who was knocked in Kisumu by a police vehicle is my grandson, his mother is my niece,” Raila said.
Odinga at the same time slammed authorities for framing innocent people in murder cases noting that Azimio lawyers are working on cases of police brutality during the opposition’s demos.
The officer is said to have been run over by a police vehicle when he missed a step to board the vehicle while running away from protestors.
Police had earlier reported that he was injured while confronting protesters in Kisumu on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Until his demise, the officer was attached to Keroka police station in Nyamira county.
