Three suspects have been apprehended and a firearm recovered following a multi-agency operation in the Burburis area of Garissa Sub-County.

According to a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Saturday, September 21, 2024, the well-choreographed operation was conducted by officers from the agency and their Administration Police Service (APS) counterparts.

One of the suspects, a woman aged 70, was nabbed in the operation on the allegation of offering refuge to the duo.

“In an intelligence-led operation, a joint team of officers drawn from General Duties, DCI, and APS Garissa have successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of orchestrating a string of violent robberies in the Burburis area of Garissa Sub-County.

“Upon raiding their hideout, law enforcement officers unearthed a treasure trove of incriminating evidence, including an AK47 rifle with serial number A082674 and 6 rounds of ammunition, 12 mobile phones, and two knives, among other damning items,” DCI added.

The trio are currently being held at the Garissa Police Station before Monday, September 23, 2024, where they will be presented in court.

The apprehended individuals, Collins Masira Michira and Cornelius Audi Odhiambo, were arrested while onboard a motor vehicle.

“A search in their getaway vehicle led to the recovery of items believed to have been stolen from the victims, including four mobile phones and a variety of adults’s and children’s clothes and shoes.

“In addition to the stolen items, the vigilant detectives uncovered several crude weapons, including a knife, a machete, a crowbar, and heavy-duty cutting pliers, all suspected to have been used to break into buildings and to inflict injuries during the robberies,” DCI detailed.
